The Complexity of the ocean

If you've ever been snorkeling then you know the potential of the sea. Coral reefs are part of the mystery. They are underwater structures that are composed of calcium carbonate which are cemented by corals. They are tiny living animals that thrive in warm, shallow, clear, sunny, and agitated waters. It is known as one of the most diverse ecosystems on the earth. They make up less than 0.1% of the world's ocean surface, but at the same time they provide a home to about 25% of all marine species. On top of this, coral reefs provide for the ecosystem with its attraction to tourists, fisheries, and shoreline protection. In fact, the annual global economic value of coral reefs is said to be estimated at $375 billion. Crazy.
