When I saw this I thought of my media influences growing up. Most prominent were Dr. Suess and Disney. Since registering the messages and meanings as a child, I have continued to understand them more and more and learn about the symbolism that I was entrenched in as a child viewer. Disney has proven to have its flaws, with secretive sexual messages, specified gender rolls, and has given a face to symbolic societal issues. I know the issues now and I have considered them just pieces of art that reflected the time. As it is analyzed as whether or not it is now an appropriate message to convey to children today, Disney movies and media remain a favorite because I can appreciate the progress of society or just to see the culture as it was and what values have continued to be prevalent. On the other hand, Dr. Suess books had the same amount of influence, and looking back at how much these quotes have been instilled in me as encouragement, I appreciate this kind of work as strictly positive reinforcement toward each individual.
